- Communication Technologies (ComTech): In partnership with Resource Management and Information Systems, designs and operates the NC State data network infrastructure.
- Computer Operations: Manages the NC State Data Centers and maintains 24 x 7 x 365 network monitoring and operational support for the central academic and administrative servers and mainframes. Operations runs the campus Optical Mark Reading ("bubble sheet") Service, and leads academic IT Disaster Recovery Planning efforts.
- Computing Services: Provides computing services to students, faculty and staff. Services include Education and Outreach, ClassTech classroom technology services, ResNet residential networking support Macintosh support & systems development, Unity accounts creation services, campus Software Licensing coordination, award-winning Publications and Web development services , applications development, Remedy call-tracking development, Unity lab & tier III technical support, multimedia expertise, and SAS Grant administration and support, and Oracle Collaboration licensing & support.
- High Performance and Grid Computing: Offers NC State researchers, faculty and students entry and medium level high-performance research and education computing facilities, training and consulting support. The NC State Faculty HPC Partnership Program provides an effective model for providing high-level equipment support to researchers while expanding campus-wide HPC capacities. The NC State Virtual Computing Lab is a joint project with the College of Engineering which now serves on-campus and distance education students.
- ITD Business and Support Services: Enhances the efficiency and accountability of ITD by providing budget management, accounting and human resources support for ITD managers and staff.
- IT Security Services: The Information Security Department provides a central contact point for campus IT security. Functions include incident handling, abuse complaint investigations, network security monitoring, security consulting, security tools for LAN administrators, access control for ITD applications and services, and ssl certificate management.
- Systems: Comprises Microcomputer Systems and Unix/Web/Database Services. Systems' primary services include the delivery of the Windows- and Solaris-based components of the Unity academic computing environment; email and calendaring; storage and backup infrastructure; and other commodity IT services for NC State University.
- Technology Support Services: Includes the NC State University Help Desk (a single gateway to both academic and administrative computing help), Distributed Support Services (in partnership with colleges and departments) and help resources for IT staff across campus.
ITD also coordinates the university's IT Accessibility efforts and provides tools, training, information and consulting services to help NC State create an inclusive campus community with equitable access to IT and IS resources including people with disabilities.
- The Office of the Vice Provost along with ITD staff provides additional strategic leadership, accountability, support and special projects to enhance the campus technology environment, academic computing resources, the efficiency and effectiveness of campus IT management, and contributions to UNC, regional, and national IT communitities. These include the Virtual Computing Lab project, the expanded SAS Initiative, and the ongoing Layer 8 initiative. .
