Notes and updates

Holiday luncheon!
Reminder: December 21, Arboretum, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wondering what to bring? See the menu submission form: http://www.ncsu.edu/itd/holiday/

December university closing
Preparations are underway for the holiday break and university closing in December. Everyone needs to submit leave requests for December 28 and 29, the days the university will be closed but staff will not be given holiday leave. We may use vacation, floating holiday or comp time (if documented in advance). Telecommuting will not be an option for most staff on these days.  However, the ITD telecommuting pilot project will be in place by then, and Debbie Carraway has set up a meeting for supervisors of staff who are telecommuting eligible to review the particulars.

Staff required to work on December 28 or 29 need to talk with their supervisors before the holiday to make sure these exceptions have been appropriately documented.

Interim performance reviews
Karen Horne reminded senior staff that interim performance reviews are due in December. Talk to your supervisor if you have questions.

Leave requests for 2006
Karen reminds everyone that leave request records for 2006 need to be up-to-date, printed out, signed by you and your supervisor, and given to Gail Gregory before the early-January deadline. Gail will send out more specific information soon.

Changes to Account Deactivation process
Harry Nicholos and Stan North Martin described enhancements to the notification processes for student account deactivations. For students who will be graduating, the goal is to send notices of account deactivation 4 months in advance with another reminder 1 month before account deactivation. The goal is to provide 14 days notice of account deactivation to students who do not register for a current semester or who have been accepted at NC State and then decided not to attend

208 and new small meeting room updates
Stan reported that he expects carpets to be installed in 208 beginning on Monday, November 27, and that the installation of the cubicle furniture is scheduled to be done on December 11-13. He said they were considering comfortable chairs with flip tablets for the small meeting room planned for 218.

ITD PSAs on Webmail login page
Stan also announced that he, Harry, Sarah Noell and Rob Gierka have established guidelines for the ITD “Public Service Announcements” on the Webmail login page. For more information contact Stan.

Other announcements

Judy Beaver said that ETSS has sent thanks to all those in the building who have helped ETSS staff cope with the recent problems in the basement.

Judy also reported that Amy Jinnette is our new contact person in the Provost's office. Vicki Walton has taken on new duties.

Saroj reported that folks at the Accessing Higher Ground conference in Boulder were very impressed by NC State's accomplishments with our Web Reg, remote access, VCL and other innovations in accessibility.  Accessibility technologists from peer institutions such as Purdue and Illinois U. were particularly impressed by Microsys' methods and models for distributing assistive technology applications campus wide.

Harry reported that there has been a 50% reduction in Spam delivered to campus since the ITD email relay system stopped accepting inbound email from hosts with dynamic IP addresses unless they used Authenticated SMTP. For metrics, see http://itd.ncsu.edu/about/metrics/email/

Jude noted that in recent weeks the Provost has announced two significant evaluation and planning events coming up early in 2007. ITD’s 5-year review and evaluation is scheduled for January 19.  For the first round of the 2007-10 compact planning process, the Provost will hold a retreat for all his units on February 23. ITD’s first-round compact plan is due February 16.

Sam wishes everyone a very happy Thanksgiving.

Hope this is helpful,
Jude
